This free snorkeling course is an online educational program provided by SDI/TDI and is designed to introduce core snorkeling concepts, equipment use, and general safety principles.

While online education is a valuable foundation, GUARDIAN strongly recommends in-person, in-water training with a qualified local professional, particularly for individuals who are new to snorkeling, returning after a long period away from the activity, or snorkeling in unfamiliar waters for the first time.

Local, in-water instruction can provide critical guidance that online learning cannot fully address, including:

• Proper equipment selection and fit for local conditions
• Water entry and exit techniques specific to the environment
• Local weather, currents, tides, and visibility considerations
• Environmental awareness, marine life interaction, and conservation practices
• Emergency procedures relevant to the specific location

This recommendation applies even to experienced snorkelers, as conditions, hazards, and best practices can vary significantly by region.

Finding Qualified Local Instruction

To locate experienced snorkeling or scuba training professionals in your home area or travel destination, you may reference the World Recreational Scuba Training Council (WRSTC) World Recreational Scuba Training Council and select the appropriate regional member agency. From there, you can access directories from major certification organizations such as SDI, PADI, SSI, and NAUI, all of which list local training affiliates by state or region.

While GUARDIAN does not endorse or recommend specific in-water instructors or training providers, we recognize WRSTC as the leading global body that establishes recreational diving training standards and requirements. We strongly encourage all consumers to perform their own due diligence when selecting a training provider, including confirming credentials, experience, adherence to WRSTC standards, and demonstrated safety protocols for any in-water instruction.
